“Trains,” was the simple one word answer given to Santa Claus every time he asked what I wanted for Christmas.
They were really only little wooden blocks with magnets, but they could entertain any 3 year old for hours. I would lay down yards and yards of the mini railroads and then roll the trains upon them. Whenever I played with them, I pretended that I was the conductor telling everybody where to go. They were my most prized possession.
I spent hours in my room trying to plan out the course that the trains would take and eventually I kept the tracks on the floor year round. These simple wooden trains held the key to my childhood entertainment for a long time. They were perfect for me and I knew it.
Now that I am older, I wish that I had something to entertain me as much as those trains did while I was a young kid. I have my iPhone, but I always feel a little guilty sitting inside for an hour playing games. Today, Tomorrow and the next day, I will try to find something to entertain me, but no matter what it is, it won’t be as good as the trains were.

What a great way to describe a piece of your childhood! I too used to love my trains, but probably not as much as you did. Every time I go to Barnes and Nobles and see their trains set up in the kids section, it brings back memories. I can’t wait to read your next post!

I also wrote about my trains! I had so many that I could run them all the way around my house!

I remember playing with trains also as a little kid, but I’m sure not as much as you. I also wish I had a toy or something that I still had that I enjoy playing with as much as I used to. I even remember in kindergarten I would come over to your house and we would play with trains and other toys for hours. Trains will always be a great memory of our childhood.

Grant, thanks for reminding me of these happy memories, watching you build your tracks and roll the little trains along. I remember you used to like to attach as many cars as possible and have really long trains to pull! Great blog post 🙂

Trains were one of my favorite toys as a child too! I totally relate with the trains entertaining any three year old. I also, when I was young, thought I was the conductor all the time.
