Deep down where gloom seeps around is where the evil Phantom lies.

A space behind the mirror starts their journey down to the pit that has confined the Phantom for many years. Christine, with a look of awe on her face, doesn’t realize the horror that hides behind the simple mask of white. It is all too late for Christine now: she will have to face the Phantom in his home territory, his dungeon of despair that sucks the light out of life. In the haunted hole, that even the foulest of creatures dare not go.

Across the lake, dyed black, from the pure evil and hatred of the Phantom’s very soul. The cloud of despair and loneliness that follows him around only adds to the awful, creepy, unnerving silence. The lake brings back the memories of Christine’s darkest moments, and she starts to truly see that she doesn’t belong in this horrific place.

Now they near the Phantom’s throne. Rose petals litter the floor and rats scurry around, frightened by the returning presence of the Phantom. The Phantom walks to his seat of power and pulls out a dummy closely resembling Christine, and in doing so, reveals his obsession of her. She realizes that she must get out of his cold, dark, smelly place of dwelling, and starts to run for her life.

Back across the lake, which feels more like blood than water. Through the hall, lit with yellow candles which create eerie shadows on the rock walls. Up the final set of spiral stairs, Christine races on, the Phantom’s hysterical screams following her up to the back of the mirror.

Out into the dressing room she spills and is consoled by the man, Raoul, who is waiting to take her to dinner. Even though she is now out of the opera house, her mind is still overwhelmed by terror of the Phantom.
